Outdoor Play

We offer what is undoubtedly one of the most stunning large and well-equipped outdoor play areas for our babies, toddlers and our pre-school children. Surrounded by lush green fields and fully enclosed, this part of our nursery opens a wealth of possibilities in terms of learning experiences. We try to ensure our children go outside daily in order to benefit from fresh air and physical play. This supports the National Curriculum guidelines, which recognises how learning outside the classroom naturally supports active, healthy lifestyles.

By playing freely outside with the toys, games and equipment available for each age group and ability, the children gain expression of movement, a sense of wellbeing and contact with the natural world around them. We teach them about nature – looking at insects and the changing seasons around us – and encourage play through games.

This outdoor time is recognised as being vital for younger children who learn primarily through sensory and physical experiences that support their developing neural pathways. Essentially this means that safe, supervised time outside to be creative, physical, free and healthy is of huge benefit to growing little ones. In the hot weather, they play under large pagodas and with correct sun protection and in wet weather we encourage puddle splashing in our wellington boots!
